Software Engineer, E-Commerce
The Role
You will own the kataoka e-commerce platform end to end — its architecture, performance, integrations, and day-to-day operations. In the near term, this means maintaining and extending our CS-Cart environment. Looking ahead, you will play a central role in a planned migration to Shopify. This is a sole-owner role.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, develop, and extend the kataoka CS-Cart platform, including custom features, third-party integrations, and front-end refinements
- Own platform performance, uptime, and security; serve as first responder for production incidents
- Manage product listings, pricing, and catalog integrity across the storefront
- Configure and maintain payment systems, tax logic, and shipping integrations
- Oversee SEO structure and implement ongoing optimizations
- Manage marketing and analytics integrations
- Coordinate with the Tokyo atelier and New York boutique to ensure the platform accurately reflects current inventory, pricing, and brand presentation
- Identify and communicate technical debt and improvement opportunities to leadership
- Lead the eventual migration from CS-Cart to Shopify, including scoping and execution
- Internal IT support as needed
Qualifications
Required
- Proficiency in PHP and hands-on experience with CS-Cart or a comparable PHP-based e-commerce platform
- Familiarity with Shopify, including its theme architecture and app ecosystem
- Strong command of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience managing a production e-commerce environment, including hosting, deployment, and incident response
- Familiarity with Linux server administration, including web server and database management in an AWS environment
- Version control with Git
- Comfort operating independently, with sound judgment about when to escalate
Preferred
- Direct CS-Cart experience
- Experience planning or executing a platform migration
- Familiarity with UX/UI fundamentals and how they apply to the customer-facing storefront
- Japanese and English fluency, spoken and written
- Familiarity with luxury retail or high-consideration purchase environments
- Experience with SEO tooling and analytics platforms
- Exposure to multi-currency and cross-border e-commerce requirements
