Every piece of kataoka jewelry is handmade to order and will take about 4 weeks to be completed. Please let us know if you require your order urgently – we are happy to prioritize orders in special cases.


kataoka jewelry can be delivered worldwide with the assistance of FedEx; we ship International Priority, and packages are usually delivered within 2 business days.
We offer the shipping and insurance fees on all kataoka creations, excluding repairs, resizings, and Peter Ivy's creations.


Due to the nature of every piece being handmade-to-order, all sales are final and no returns or exchanges can be accepted.

Defective or Incorrect Items

In the unlikely event that you receive a defective or incorrect item, please contact us within 7 days after the delivery date with photographs of your order, and we will offer full refund including shipping costs for your return.
Please note that we cannot accept any damaged or visibly altered items. Customers are responsible for the returned parcel until it is delivered to our facility. We cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged shipments.

Do you provide a warranty?
We stand behind everything we make, that is why we offer a Lifetime Limited Warranty on all of our creations.
What is your lead time?
Every piece is handmade to order, and it will take about 4 weeks to be completed. For rush orders, please contact us and we’ll do our very best to oblige!
What quality are kataoka diamonds?
All the diamonds we use for our standard designs are F color, Clarity SI1, very good cut and polish minimum. If you wish to have higher quality diamonds set on your kataoka treasure, please contact us.
Are your gold and platinum recycled?
Yes! All gold and platinum that are used in kataoka creations are recycled from the advanced Japanese semiconductor industry. Read more about our custom-blended metals here.
Where do you source your precious gems?
All of our precious gems are conflict-free and supplied by our long-term trusted partners. Each gemstone is unique, and they all vary slightly in size and color.
Please let us know if you have any special requests regarding the color of the stone. While we cannot guarantee an exact replica of the gemstones shown online, we will do our best to source a gemstone that will make you cherish your kataoka treasure forever!
Where are kataoka creations made?
kataoka jewelry pieces are all handcrafted in our Atelier in Tokyo, Japan.
Can you use lab-grown diamonds in your creations?
Yoshinobu is not just a jewelry maker but an artist who is very devoted to his process and love of what he does. His ethos is to work with gems and materials that speak to him, which we are sure you can understand considering how strong your connection to your preferred stones can be.

For him, and for us as a luxury house, using only naturally occurring untreated and conflict-free stones is very near and dear to our hearts. This is in no way shape or form a slight or turned up nose to lab-grown diamonds; the result would be the same if someone asked him to work with another gem that we didn’t have a connection to. In this way, we maintain our love for creating jewelry and keep it unique to us.
Why do your creations command such a high price point?
What you are investing in when you purchase a kataoka jewel is the value of high quality, ethically sourced gemstones; the recycled and custom-blended metals; the kataoka lifetime warranty that covers your jewelry; and the unique designs and aesthetic of master jeweler Yoshinobu Kataoka, who applies decades of expertise in centuries-old techniques to innovate and create works of art worthy of passing to the next generation.
Can I purchase a ring without the center stone?
No, we do not sell any of our creations incomplete.
We exclusively use ethically sourced white premium diamonds and natural gemstones.
Besides, our gold and platinum being custom-blended and unique to kataoka, third-party jewelry workshops wouldn't be able to set your stone without ruining the setting; they do not have access to our exclusive custom-blended metals.
I have an heirloom gemstone, can you set it on one of your designs?
We only use our own ethically sourced premium gemstones in all kataoka creations.
Do you provide appraisals?
We can provide an invoice that documents your investment for your kataoka jewel(s) with all the specifics, for insurance purposes. Please note that an appraisal can only come from a third-party, certified appraiser to avoid any conflicts of interest.
What gemstones are the best for engagement rings?
Gemstone hardness, based on the Mohs scale, contributes significantly to the degree to which a gem will show wear. This is often referred to as wearability or sometimes “durability.”
Quartz which has a hardness of 7 is a component of dust and one of the most common minerals on Earth. Simply wiping off the dust from a softer material (i.e., hardness below 7 on the Mohs scale) will scratch it. Diamonds with a hardness of 10, rubies and sapphires with a hardness of 9, or emeralds with a hardness of 8 will remain bright and lustrous for years because they are harder than most of the abrasive particles that contribute to wear, making them excellent choices for engagement rings.

On the other hand, a paraiba tourmaline with a hardness of 7 or an opal with a hardness of 6 or a pearl with a hardness of 4 will be rapidly covered with fine scratches and lose their polish if worn every day as a ring stone. The scratches may be tiny, even microscopic, but they’ll accumulate and become visible over time, they are definitely more delicate, so we don’t recommend them for an engagement ring that you plan to wear every day.

About Payments, Shipping, and Returns

What countries do you ship to?
We ship worldwide, free of charge on all orders. Packages are usually delivered within 2 business days and an adult signature will be required.
What is your returns policy?
Every kataoka piece is handmade to order, all sales are final and no returns can be accepted whatsoever.
What can I do if I ordered the wrong ring size?
We know that ring sizing is tricky, and that's why we provide one resizing, completely free-of-charge, within one year of purchase on all orders placed directly through us. For orders placed through one of our authorized retailers, there will be a small fee of $100 per resizing.

Please note that you'll be responsible for the shipping fees to and from Japan. However, if you're based in the US, you can ship your ring to our New York Flagship store, and we will forward it to Japan, and bring it back to NYC for you. You'd just be responsible for the shipping fees within the US.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, JCB, American Express. They are processed on secure servers and no credit card information are stored in our database. Ever.
Do you offer financing options?
As of now, we do not provide any financing options. However, please reach out to us with your inquiry and we will do our best to help you find a solution for your investment in your future kataoka treasures.
Where do your jewelry ship from?
All our jewelry ship from our Atelier in Tokyo, Japan.
Can I track my order?
After we ship your order, we will send you a tracking number by email. You can also see your order status and delivery tracking details under “My Account” after you log in.
Are there any additional costs that will be due upon receipt of my order?
Duties are never fun, and It is customary that luxury items are due to customs duties upon entering the delivery country.
Please inquire with your country customs agencies to have the most accurate rates.
How do I cancel or change an order?
After you place your order, we will start handcrafting your item(s) promptly. If you wish to change your order, please contact us within 24 hours. Please note that once we start production, no cancellations or modifications can be accepted.

Our creations are handcrafted and produced in very limited quantities; We do not overprice anything with the intention of putting it on sale during the holidays. Therefore, we never offer any discount sales.
What you get is a fair and even pricing, considering the quality of the materials we use and the level of craftsmanship. What you don't get is jacked-up prices, with misleading sales every once in a while.

(4.) Kataoka shall assume no responsibility whatsoever regarding any damages that may have been incurred from illicit use of the User's Account.
(5.) Users of the Services that register an Account for the use of the Services shall agree to provide complete and accurate information (hereinafter referred to as "Registration Information"), and for the maintenance of the completeness and accuracy of the Registration Information shall agree to update Registration Information when necessary.

11. Purchase of Merchandise
(1.) Users of this Site may purchase merchandise or procure certain services (hereinafter referred to as "Merchandise" from Kataoka.
(2.) Users of this Site shall offer to purchase Merchandise in accordance with the procedures set forth by Kataoka, by use of the Services to place an order.
(3.) Once an order is received, an email ("Order Confirmation") containing the order confirmation and order details will be sent from this Site. At this time, a purchase agreement will be enacted between the User and Kataoka pertaining to the corresponding order and all items contained therein.
(4.) Once a purchase agreement has been enacted, cancellation of the order, changes to the details of an order or any of the terms and conditions of purchase may not be accepted.
(5.) The previous clauses of this article notwithstanding, in the case that the User is found to have exercised misconduct or inappropriate behavior associated with the use of the Services, Kataoka will have the right to retract or cancel any purchase agreement and to take any other appropriate measures.
12. Shipping of Merchandise
(1.) Delivery of Merchandise under Services is available worldwide with the help of our freight partners.
(2.) Merchandise ordered will be dispatched from Japan or the United States of America.
(3.) The Order shall be shipped by aircraft carrier unless otherwise specified by Kataoka prior to shipment. You shall be notified of any shipments via AirWayBill, and such notification shall provide proof of shipment. Kataoka is not responsible for any loss, damage or theft of the Order once it has been released by Kataoka to a shipping company or carrier. Kataoka’s responsibility is limited to proof of delivery to a shipment carrier, at which time the Order becomes your property. Kataoka is not responsible for any expenses incurred from the shipment of the Custom Order after said items have been shipped (i.e., after said items have left Kataoka’s facilities).
13. Shipping costs, Service Charges, and Import duties and taxes
Kataoka shall bear all the shipping costs associated with the delivery of Merchandise. Any import duties, customs fee, and taxes that may apply to the shipment shall be the customer's responsibility.
14. Method of payment for merchandise
(1.) The total payment amount for the Merchandise shall be the purchase price inclusive of any applicable sales tax, as well as the shipping costs, and any other service charges.
(2.) The payment for Merchandise purchased through this Service can be made by the purchaser's credit card [VISA, MASTERCARD, JCB, AMERICAN EXPRESS, DISCOVER] of which the purchaser must be the user, or by the purchaser's PAYPAL account of which the purchaser must be the user.
(3.) When making a payment by credit card, Kataoka maintains the right to seek pre-approval for payment limited to the order total. Billing will take place before the order has begun the dispatch process.
(4.) If payment is made by a credit card or PAYPAL, the purchaser shall be in compliance with the terms and conditions set forth in a separate agreement between the purchaser and the Credit Card Company or PAYPAL. If for any reason there is any dispute or conflict between the purchaser and the credit card company or any third party, it is the responsibility of the purchaser to settle such dispute or conflict, and Kataoka will assume no responsibility in connection with such dispute or conflict.
15. Return of Merchandise
(1.) We do not accept any returns or exchanges of Merchandise; provided, however, that if at the time of delivery the Merchandise is damaged or defective, or the purchaser receives a wrong product, Kataoka will accept a return or exchange of the Merchandise in accordance with this provision. The purchaser shall contact Kataoka within 7 days of the receipt of the Merchandise by sending an e-mail with his/her order confirmation number. Sending an e-mail that complies with the method specified by Kataoka is the only way for an exchange to be accepted. If there is no stock of such Merchandise and a proper exchange is not possible, a return will be accepted, and a refund will be made.
(2.) For the said return or exchange to be accepted, it is necessary that all the conditions below shall be met. (I.) The Merchandise to be returned or exchanged must be unused. If the tags are missing from the Merchandise, it will not be considered unused. (II.) All the components, attachments, and delivery confirmation for the Merchandise must be returned in the same condition as they were at the time of delivery. (III.) Any other specific details that Kataoka may request shall be met.
16. Indemnity in regards to merchandise
(1.) Except for what is provided in the preceding article, Kataoka shall not be liable for any damages, detriments, and/or loss of profits that may be generated from this Service and/or Merchandise to be purchased through this Service, nor guarantee the quality, performance, compatibility with other merchandise, and other functions of this Service and the Merchandise.
(2.) In the case that any of the following events occurs, Kataoka, at its own discretion, may cancel and nullify the purchase agreement, and shall not be held liable for not providing the Merchandise to the purchaser: (I.) In the case that there are any difficulties in regards to delivery, such as the designated shipping address being unidentifiable. (II.) In the case a system failure occurs resulting in the inability to place an order, an order for the wrong Merchandise or the acceptance of an excessive amount of purchase offers compared to the number that can be accepted. (III.) In the case that any other event occurs that may prevent Merchandise from being provided.
(3.) An offer for the purchase of Merchandise made by a minor will be deemed being made under the guardians' responsibility.
17. Other
(1.) Any correspondence between Kataoka and each User regarding the use of the Services in principle will be made only via e-mail.
(2.) E-mail addresses registered to mobile phones may not properly display the messages sent by Kataoka.
(3.) In the case a question in regards to interpretation of the Terms of Use arises, or there is a provision that is not stated in the Terms of Use, Kataoka and the User will mutually consult the matter in good faith to reach a resolution.
(4.) In the case that the consultation regarding a dispute in the preceding clause does not reach a resolution, any and all disputes in regards to the Terms of Use and/or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court or Tokyo Supreme Court in Tokyo, Japan.
